Did you know that this week is the Buy Local Challenge in Maryland? If you’re not participating, its not too late!

Sponsored by the Southern Maryland Ag Commission, the Buy Local Challenge encourages consumers in Maryland to support local farms by eating at least one local item each day for a week. You can visit the official website to pledge to take the challenge and to find out more information: https://www.buylocalchallenge.com

At Coffee Coffee, we are proud to help our customers accomplish this challenge every day! Currently on our menu you will find the following locally sourced ingredients:

Our Garden Salads feature organic greens from Flying Plow Farm and greek extra-virgin olive oil from Agros Corinthian Olive Oil. For our Greek Grain Bowl, Summer Veggie Frittatas, and marinated veggies, we source vegetables from Flying Plow Farm, Wilsons Farm, Brogue Hydroponics, and the garden of a customer who grows delicious cucumbers, eggplant and zucchini using organic methods. The herbs in many of our menu items come from the pots right in front of our shop, or our own gardens, as does the mint for our Mojito Coldbrew! The fruit in our scones and cakes is sourced locally- right now the peaches are coming from Brown Croft Farm. The kalamata olives in our Greek Grain Bowl are imported by Dimitri Olive Oil. In our latest Hopped Up cold brew infusion, we featured fresh hops from Hopkins Farm… as you can see, local sourcing is important to us!

Most of these sources are fellow vendors at the Bel Air and Havre de Grace Farmers Markets. We encourage you to come visit the markets if you haven’t already. There are also great local farm stands to visit during the week when you need a refill on local produce: Brad’s Markets (Churchville & Bel Air), Flying Plow farm stand (Rising Sun), Wilsons Market (Bel Air), Harmans farm stand (Churchville), and so many more!

Kudos to all who have taken the Buy Local Challenge this week- our local farmers and producers appreciate your support!! We challenge you to take it a step further, and keep the challenge going all year long!
